Griffin Family Nature Preserve
Meeting Minutes for April 10, 2008
Present at the Meeting:
Stiney Vondehaar, Catherine Hartman, Dave Nichols, and Jim Owens
Topics Discussed:
· Reviewed meeting minutes from March 13, 2008.
· Spring Volunteer Day planned for May 10th, 9:00am-noon, May 17th backup date.
o Catherine provided poster for recreation lobby.
o Jim contacted Lynn and Jack for newsletter announcement.
o Refreshments to be provided. Catherine volunteered to pick up donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate. Jim or Kim to provide drinks and Linda to pick up pizza.
o Work list to include trail maintenance, honeysuckle removal, drainage maintenance, some downed tree removal, trash pickup, and fun.
o Suggested to plant a couple new trees in the lower field and add some new foliage near pond electric box.
o Jim and Pat to review and organize activity list on site prior to Volunteer Day.
o Jim to meet with Service Dept around 8am to help get tools and equipment up to preserve.
· Signboard Lexan covers to be installed.
· Reported that wildflower seeds have been ordered.
· No new updates reported on two existing Boy Scout Projects..
· Catherine to get with Bob for Griffin Preserve time-line.
· Jim reported that he and Pat thought the Bobcat honeysuckle removal recently done at Gorman looked too invasive for Griffin Preserve. Suggested we might look into the cut and treat method.
· Dave Nichols reported that a committee had been formed to start a community wide trail map and they would be meeting on April 11th.
Action Items:
· Finalize Spring Volunteer Day planning.
· Service Department to install Lexan covers to signboard.
· Follow up on Boy Scout projects.
· Catherine and Bob document history for signboard posting.
